"Thoughts are Things" - Napolean
Hill
Everything we possess or have done, started out as a Thought. The 1st Step
originated as a dream Dan and I had. Everything I have in my life, from my
possessions to my relationships to my occupations, started out as Thoughts.
Now if I look at the quality of my possessions, my relationships, my jobs,
my life, and I am not happy with what I see, I begin an inquiry about the
quality of my Thoughts. I know my thoughts started the process of this creation
that is my life.
What was going on in my thought processes that resulted in this
dissatisfaction? Moreover, if all this is true, then what can I do to
consciously competently think thoughts that will bring me the results I want?
Most of us do not believe that our thoughts create the life we live. If we
did we would be much more reverent about it.
The past six months, I have been spending a lot of time thinking about what
I want in a relationship physically, financially, mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually. I drew pictures, wrote lists, talk with my friends, cut photos out
of magazines, worked on feeling the Feeling of being in that relationship, and
more, Once my thoughts were very clear about what I wanted, I took the next
step. Action.
Nothing happens if we don't.
As I took my steps, the most incredible coincidences and chance happenings
took place. I now find myself in relationship with a most wonderful woman.
I was once told we think 50,000 thoughts a day. I counted once. I came up
with a hundred. Where are all these thoughts? Most are in our subconscious and
unconscious minds. So if my thoughts are central to the life I lead, and I am
unaware of 95% of them, no wonder so much happens that I seem to have no control
over.
Now it is impossible to consciously think every thought. That would be a
thought every 0.57 seconds. Besides who wants to constantly think about when the
heart muscles should be contracting or expanding? There are two considerations.
First, to be aware. I watch my thoughts. I find I am becoming better and better
at catching them, particularly those that start, "You Idiot!
"
These I can change into a more empowering "You Genius!
" Second,
to work with my subconscious instead of against it. Part of the secret is to
focus on "What do I want?" My Mantra. As my answer to this question
becomes clearer, my subconscious makes choices consistent with my desires. With
no direction, it creates chaos.
Napolean Hill wrote, "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, he
can achieve." What do you believe?
